Call of the wild

While we were eating our lunch at the San Francsico Zoo there was a male peacock that was walking around grounds. Every once in a while he would let out this loud cry to claim the territory as his. Theis is the male peacock way of telling other males to stay away. Well Jaz hearing this cry mimic it back. Not only did she mimic it but it was so dead on that the peacock responded to her. When Jaz made her cry he would make his cry back and spread out his feathers to show how big and beautiful he was. She did this until I thought she should stop because I didn’t want to harass the bird. A bunch of other people who had been watching, tried to mimic the cry but couldn’t get it close enough to get a response from the bird. Finally, they ask if Jaz could do it one more time so they could get a picture. I said yes, and Jaz gave her call. The peacock immediately called back and fanned out his feathers.
